April–May 2026 DFW Hail Storms: Is Your Roof Ready for What’s Coming Next?

The past two weeks have been a wake-up call for homeowners and commercial property owners across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Between April 24 and April 29, 2026, North Texas endured one of the most intense severe weather outbreaks of the year. The National Weather Service Fort Worth/Dallas office issued 111 warnings — including 22 tornado warnings and 81 severe thunderstorm warnings — and logged 226 confirmed hail reports across the region. Collin County communities including Plano, Wylie, Sachse, and Murphy were struck by teacup-sized hail measuring up to 2.5 inches in diameter. Rockwall County saw similar impacts. Dallas, Mesquite, DeSoto, and Lancaster were hit with ping pong ball-sized hail and wind gusts reaching 60 mph. An EF3 tornado touched down in Mineral Wells with estimated winds of 145 mph — the strongest tornado in Parker County since 1990.

And the severe weather isn’t finished. As of May 9, 2026, Hail Point is reporting scattered 1”–2.5” hail impacts across DFW, and NWS Fort Worth is forecasting another round of large hail and damaging winds for Mother’s Day weekend (May 10).

What This Means for Your Roof

Hail damage is deceptive. From the ground, your roof may look completely intact — no missing shingles, no obvious holes. But up close, the story is different. Hail impacts dislodge the protective granule coating from asphalt shingles, exposing the underlying mat to UV degradation and moisture. Dented flashing around chimneys, vents, and skylights creates entry points for water. Gutters and downspouts absorb impact that telegraphs the severity of what hit your roof.

Quarter-sized hail (1 inch) can reduce a roof’s lifespan by 3–5 years. Golf ball-sized hail (1.75 inches) typically cracks shingles and dents metal components — often the threshold for insurance-approved full replacement. The teacup-sized hail (2–2.5 inches) that struck Collin and Rockwall Counties in late April is well above that threshold.

The Insurance Clock Is Ticking

Texas law gives homeowners one year from the date of storm damage to file an insurance claim. That sounds like plenty of time — but waiting works against you. The longer you wait, the harder it becomes to prove that damage is storm-related rather than pre-existing wear. Insurance adjusters are trained to look for evidence of fresh impact. A professional inspection with documented drone imagery and thermal scans gives you the strongest possible foundation for your claim.

At Roofing Professionals of Texas, we’ve been helping DFW homeowners and commercial property managers navigate storm damage and insurance claims for over 40 years. Our process is built around protecting your interests:

  • Free drone inspection using high-resolution aerial imagery to identify hail impacts, cracked flashing, and shingle damage invisible from the ground
  • Thermal imaging to detect hidden moisture intrusion before it becomes structural damage
  • Complete insurance documentation — we prepare a thorough damage report and work directly with your adjuster throughout the claims process
  • Full roof replacement at RCV — for insurance claims, we replace your roof at Replacement Cost Value plus your deductible. No hidden costs, no surprises.

We also handle gutters, windows, doors, and fencing — because storms don’t limit their damage to just the roof.

Serving All of DFW

We serve homeowners and businesses across Collin, Dallas, Denton, Tarrant, Rockwall, and Grayson Counties. Whether you’re in Plano, McKinney, Allen, Frisco, Rockwall, or anywhere across the Metroplex, our team is ready to respond.
